 Iain Gourlay
Iain has a theoretical physics background and gained his PhD from Heriot-Watt University in
2000 for his work on Quantum Computation. He is currently working as a research fellow on the
EU funded AssessGrid project, investigating risk management within Grid based systems. Previously he
worked on the EPSRC funded AMOS (Analysis and Modelling of Optoelectronic Architectures), which
was a collaborative project between the University of Leeds (School of Computing) and Heriot-Watt University
(Physics Department) and subsequently DAME (Distributed Aircraft Maintenance Environment). His research in
AMOS involved assisting in the architectural design, identifying algorithms and computing paradigms to exploit
this architecture and mathematical modelling to evaluate its performance.
Iain's current research interests are in Grid resource brokering and scheduling, risk management in Grid
systems and simulation-based performance evaluation. He is also responsible for organising the Web Science seminars.
