Adaptation and Personalisation to Augment Human Intellect
My research is in Intelligent Systems, with a focus on personalisation and user-adaptive systems. I lead a research activity on 'User-modelling and User-adaptive Systems'. We develop methods and intelligent techniques to assist people perform tasks and activities, to facilitate the development of knowledge, and to support human practice. Our work spans in several areas:
- User, group and community modelling – knowledge-enhanced methods for modelling individual users, groups, and knowledge sharing communities; exploits ontological reasoning, dialogic models, and graph mining; applications in intelligent educational environments and virtual communities.
- Knowledge capture – methods for intuitive knowledge capture; intelligent user interfaces, controlled natural language interaction; applications in ontology engineering.
- Context modelling – represent and derive an extended context model of complex human activities; applications in risk assessment and decision making.
- Personalisation – developing intelligent techniques for adaptive interventions (adaptive notifications, user-tailored advice, visualisations), and for browsing support (adaptive semantic trajectories).
