Abstract: In this talk I will first outline the evolution of the Grid up to the current day, using different projects to highlight the various stages in its development. I will then discuss a number of absorbing examples that highlight both good and bad aspects of recent grid research and development. In the final part of the talk I will outline existing and emerging projects that are being undertaken by the Distributed Systems Group at Portsmouth.
