School of Computing

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING

Research Activity

The School is one of the longest-established research institutes for computing in the country, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2007. In the last, 2008, Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), the School achieved an impressive 80% of staff rated internationally excellent or World leading (3* or 4*) translating to a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.05.  This places the School in the top computing submissions in the UK, a large and highly competitive grouping, and confirms the School’s status as a leading research institute for computing.

The School conducts research in the foundations of computer science and in a variety of applied and multidisciplinary settings. It has attracted grants from each of the seven UK Research Councils, government departments, the European Union and many industrial sources.
