A KS3/4 Programming Competition
Is there merit in creating a national programming competition
for the 11-14, and 14-16, age groups?
If so, what would it look like?
How would it run?
Who would run it?
What would it cost?
School-level programming competitions are nationally organised in many
countries and generate interest and enthusiasm for programming and
computing well beyond the teams that compete.
Among competitors, they reinforce interest in Computing at a time when there has been a widespread decline.
KS3 (ages 11-14) is an age band during which interest and curiosity in
computing is seen to plummet: this is partly for lack of meaningful activity.
Abundant evidence suggests that some children at least are well able to master
programming in one of the many accessible environments available at this age.
A
workshop
to scope the idea will be held in Leeds on 30th April 2009. This event is
supported and sponsored by
CPHC.
