Whatever became of X-rays?


This website accompanies the video "Whatever became of X-Rays?", and is intended as a resource to be used with the video. It can ordered online from Leeds University Media Services.

It includes demonstrations of some of the concepts presented and links to research software mentioned. Each section covers the same topics as the corresponding video presentation.

Part 1: Modern Imaging Techniques
Read background information on the medical techniques seen in the video and the computer technology used.
Part 3: Interpreting Scans
Experiment with thresholding to experience some of the difficulties in interpreting scans.
Part 2: Images and their handling
The pictures we take need representing and storing on a computer. How is this done, and what problems are there?
Part 4: Computer Models
Computer models allow surgeons to learn and practice their skills on 'virtual' humans. Two such models are available here for you to try.
