Celebrating 50 years of Computing across the UK
In 2007 University of Leeds, University of Glasgow, Newcastle University, Oxford University, Southampton University, University College London (UCL) and Birkbeck College London are all celebrating 50 years of their Computer Science departments.
The BCS is also celebrating its 50th birthday so, by way of a collaborative event, a touring lecture is being planned during the autumn.
BCS 50th Anniversary - Touring University Lecture
Professor Dave Cliff will deliver an inspiring presentation on computing to an audience of 14 - 18 year olds at each the Universities listed. A full programme of dates is to be confirmed but the lecture at Leeds is scheduled for Wednesday 10 October and will take place in Mechanical Engineering Lecture Theatre B from 2-3pm. More information about the nature and content of the lecture will be posted here as soon as possible. For information, other dates confirmed are as follows:
- Newcastle - Wednesday 7 November
- Southampton - Wednesday 14 November
Professor Dave Cliff is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Bristol. He has previously held faculty posts at the University of Southampton, MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab, and the University of Sussex. He has also worked in industrial technology research as a department scientist for Hewlett-Packard Labs Europe, and as a director for Deutsche Bank Foreign Exchange Trading London. He is Director of a major research project, has published many papers, holds several patents, and his work regularly features in the international print and broadcast media. He is frequently invited to speak on his research and related themes.
How can I attend?
