Short Personal Reflective
This deliverable is a short personal reflection on your time as an intern. The length expected is literally a couple of paragraphs (up to a page) written in the first person which give a flavour of what it meant to you to be a research intern and to be a member of staff (rather than a student) in the dept.
A list of questions below gives an idea of the sorts of things for possible reflection. You may choose to focus on just a selection of these things that reflect your experience more specifically:
- what are you hoping to extract from a research internship, intellectually and professionally?
- consider your current position and that on 1st June: summarise what you know about the School's research and its conduct that you didn't know then.
- consider your current position and that on 1st June: what do you know now that you didn't know then? some of the answer to this will be purely technical, but perhaps not all.
- if you began work again tomorrow, what if anything would you do differently?
- will your research internship influence your project? If so, how? If not, is there a particular reason?
- what was the most interesting thing you did during the research internship?
- what was the most challenging thing you did during the research internship (may be the same)?
- what would SoC do to manage research internships differently (aka "better").
- what would you say if one next years's 2nd years asked whether s/he should apply for a research internship?
- to what extent did your research internship require that you use what you have learnt in SoC modules?
- has the research internship affected your option choices for your final year?
Please note that, although quotes from the reflective pieces may be used in subsequent reports and publications, no individual will be identified at any time.
