Welcome to Induction Week at the School of Computing
Please take a look at the timetable for Induction Week and make sure you know what is happening, when it is happening, and where it is happening.
Induction Timetable Monday 19th - Friday 23rd September
Welcome from David Hogg - Head of School

Welcome to the School of Computing. From the very beginning, you will, we hope, learn what makes Leeds different to the other places you might have gone to. Different, and better - of course.
I hope you enjoy the session and being part of the School; if you're not enjoying yourself, there's something wrong and we will try to help you fix it. I should add that if you're not working hard, there is also something wrong, and we will try to help you fix that too. The School is committed to achieving the highest academic standards and I hope you will play your full part in this.
I look forward to meeting you all during your time at Leeds. If there are issues you want to bring to me, you will usually find my door open. Good luck in your studies with us.
Induction Week - Monday - Friday

We hope that in the first week that you spend at University you'll find your way around the School of Computing, understand the support structures that are there to help you study and, of course, make some friends and have some fun. Much of your work at the School will involve using the range of powerful networked computers in the School's laboratories - you'll be expected to complete a sequence of lab exercises to help you through the essentials ready for module teaching which starts the following Monday. During induction week you will also take part in the University induction programme, collect your student id card, meet your personal tutor and many of your fellow students. We hope we've put together a timetable which gets you through the Induction Week objectives while still giving you time to settle into university life, new accomodation and a new social and work environment.
The full programme of activities is described on the relevant timetable page (see above). There will be induction activities from Monday through to Friday. You will be expected to take part but there will also be plenty of time to explore on your own, make some new friends and get the essential household stuff.
Registration and Portal
You should have used the University of Leeds web site to register online from 1st September. Once you've registered you will be able access the student portal and log on to the University's networks of Computers. If you haven't registered online please do not worry but contact the Computing Student Office for help as this does need completing by a particular deadline.
FAQ and Directions
In this section there are directions to help you find your into and around the School, more information about the Laboratories you might use and answers to those most frequently asked questions we get during induction.
There are also collections of what we think are the most useful links to learn more about the School and more about Leeds and how to find out what we know about you. The University has advice on accommodation, finances, city life and careers.
