28 June: 3 Peaks Walk

Tom and I (Hannah) did the 3 peaks with some friends on 28 June - we raised money for Alzheimer's Society in memory of our grandfather, Harry. Tom's mate Iain came up from Reading with Tom to join in, and my mates Danni and Heather also raised cash for Alzheimer's, so we got quite a bit. It took us 11 hours 15, which is not a bad time for 24.5 miles and three massive hills. As you'll see from the photos below, the weather wasn't ideal....

If you want to sponsor one of us but haven't got round to it yet, the webpages should still be open at http://www.justgiving.com/hannah3peaks for me, Danni and Heather http://www.justgiving.com/tom3peaksengland for Tom and http://www.justgiving.com/iainmcaloon for Ian.

Before

Tom showing off his headgear

Pen-y-Ghent

Going up

The top - visibility, about 20 feet...

The long and boggy slog between Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside. Pretty much everyone changed for dry socks after this bit - if they had dry socks with them...

Whernside

Going up...

The top, visibility about 40 feet

Coming down again

Ingleborough

Going up... this one was really rather hard

But we did at last get some views from the top

A bit windy though... and a bit sweaty

The descent of Ingleborough through some stunning limestone pavement - about 6 miles of downhill. You can see Pen-y-Ghent in the farground.

Afterwards

Iain very cleverly brought a bottle of fizz which we drank from our 3 peaks club of Yorkshire mugs. To join the 3 peaks club you have to check in at the Pen-y-Ghent cafe before starting, complete all three peaks, check back in at the end, fill out a small yellow form, exchange that for a large white form, then hand that back. All without fully functioning legs...

The next day

Whernside came out of hiding:

Iain pores over the map in awe:
