After School Computing Club: Objectives
- To establish two after-school clubs in the Leeds area.
- To produce a programme of activities focusing on fundamentals of the discipline of computing, e.g. programming.
- To raise awareness of computing as a discipline among participating pupils and their teachers.
- To establish a volunteer mentor scheme for computing undergraduates to support the after-school clubs.
Project Management
The project will be directed by Dr Martyn Clark (MAC) and managed by Dr Joanna Briggs (JB) both staff are co-located in the School of Computing.
Marketing Strategy
The ICT teachers at the two educational institutions will be responsible for promoting the clubs to their pupils. Advertising will take place within the School of Computing to attract students to volunteer as mentors via the News electronic bulletin board which is accessible to all staff and students. IBM have an existing relationship with the School of Computing and will be contacted directly to request whether the company may be able to provide simple, low cost items for distribution to the pupils.
