CETL ALiC: Outcomes and Dissemination
An early priority for the consortium has been to share particular aspects of what has been deemed to be excellent practice in teaching and learning. Transfer is done using a set format whereby each element of excellent practice is defined as a 'bundle'. The concept of a bundle was developed via a former project EPCoS (Effective Project Work in Computer Science) funded by Phase One of the HEFCE Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning. The outcomes of that project are summarised in the book Computer Science Project Work: Principles and Pragmatics. Other examples of bundles can be viewed from the University of Leeds School of Computing website.
The goal of ALiC is to extend best practice by encouraging innovation. Collectively, the consortium will raise awareness in the computing community and aid the embedding of new practices. As a first step, the dissemination strategy will involve embedding each sites expertise in the partner institutions before involving other computing departments. Working closely with the Academy Subject Network, pre-existing communication paths will be utilised, not replicated. For instance, the ALiC website which will form a central repository will be linked to the Higher Education Academy Information and Computer Sciences website. The ultimate goal is to impact on best practice adopted for active learning throughout Higher Education.
