Travel information

Leeds is a major UK city, and so there are plentiful travel options available. The city is served by Leeds-Bradford International Airport, and has a large railway station that is next-door to the conference Hotel. For delegates travelling from outside the UK, the two best options for travel to Leeds are:

  • Fly to Leeds-Bradford Airport and catch a taxi to the Queen's Hotel.
  • Fly to Manchester International Airport, and catch a train to Leeds railway station.

More detailed travel information is shown below.

By Air

Download a full pdf timetable here which details operational dates and days of departure for all direct schedule and holiday flights to and from Leeds-Bradford airport. British Midland and  Lufthansa are among several airlines that serve Leeds-Bradford Airport (LBA) from London Heathrow; journey time is approximately 1 hour.

Trains

The following will give you access to finding train times from all major cities to Leeds City Station.

www.nationalrail.co.uk

Once you arrive at Leeds, the Queen’s Hotel is part of the station complex, and so you won't need to take a taxi to get there. Other central hotels will be found within half a mile or so of the rail station. Buses and taxis from the station will take you direct to the University of Leeds (half a mile walk) should you be attending either of the pre-conference workshops.

From London (King’s Cross Station) train times on Sunday 1st October are every half hour and the journey time is approximately 2hrs 20 minutes. There are direct connections, but please check on the timetable at King’s Cross.

From Manchester Airport, there are at least 2 trains each hour direct from the airport to Leeds City Station. Journey time is approximately 1hour 45 minutes.

By Car

If you wish to travel by hire car from London or Manchester, allow 3-5 hours from Heathrow and 2 hours from Manchester. Car hire depots at Heathrow are accessed via bus service from outside main terminal buildings. At Manchester, car hire depots are within walking distance.

From Heathrow, follow motorway signs from the airport for M25 (Orbital motorway), then M1 motorway signposted ‘The North’. Traffic can be very heavy on the M25 so allow plenty of time.
The M1 motorway and then M621 into Leeds city centre will take you to the Queen’s Hotel which is located next to the rail station.

From Manchester, follow M56, M60, M62 and then (near Leeds) M621 to centre of Leeds.

Taxis
Streamline, Telecabs and City Cabs are the three companies that form the Airport Taxi Association (ATA). For transfers to and from LBA we recommend you contact the ATA. ATA cabs are all fully licensed black and white Leeds City Council hackney carriages, and are available for hire from either the taxi rank situated immediately outside the terminal building at LBA, or by pre-booking in advance on one of the following telephone numbers. Fares are all metered and are governed by Leeds City Council.

ATA - Airport Taxi Association
Streamline: +44 (0) 113 244 3322
Telecabs: +44 (0) 113 279 2222
City Cabs: +44 (0) 113 246 9999

Journey times by taxi from the airport to central Leeds vary according to the time of day. At peak times (7.30 – 9.30am; 4pm – 6pm) journey time can be up to 1 hour. At other times, you should allow about 40 minutes
