The file whole-perl-tutorial.txt.gz is a compressed text version of the Perl tutorial on http://www.comp.leeds.ac.uk/Perl/start.html. Once you have obtained the file you need the GNU unzip program to uncompress it. The command gunzip whole-perl-tutorial.txt.gz should do this. If it doesn't then ask your system administrator. Then you should have a plain text file whole-perl-tutorial.txt. There are instructions at the beginning telling you how to indentify page breaks if you want to insert them. I haven't done this because it tends to be a subjective and/or system specific. Enjoy, -- Nik Silver, nik@scs.leeds.ac.uk, 16th June 1995.
